Postpartum doulas support families!
Present health care practices in much of the developed world, combined with a lack of cultural rituals leave families virtually unsupported in the crucial year of childbirth. There is a great deal of evidence suggesting that quality support can ease the transition that comes with the addition of a baby to the family. By educating, attending to the needs of the parents, infant and children and by offering quality referral information, the postpartum doula can ease and enhance the postpartum experience. Every family can benefit from the support and encouragement offered by a doula during the fourth trimester.
HOW CAN A POSTPARTUM DOULA HELP ME?
Offers education, companionship and nonjudgmental support during the postpartum fourth trimester
Assists with newborn care, family adjustment, meal preparation and light household tidying and errands
Provides evidence-based information on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, infant soothing and coping skills for new parents and makes appropriate referrals when necessary
A postpartum doula nurtures the parents into their roles.
Self-confidence has a tremendous impact on a person’s ability to approach any task, and parenting is no different. Postpartum doulas are taught to always consider parents’ feelings and always build confidence whenever possible. Doulas accomplish this through praise, acceptance and a non-judgmental approach. In addition, the doula will teach parents strategies and skills that will improve their ability to bond with their babies. A calm baby who is growing well will help parents to feel more confident in their skills.
Overnight Postpartum Doula Services:
A postpartum doula can be a big help overnight too! A postpartum doula helps to put baby to sleep, assists with bringing the baby to mom to nurse, or can give the baby a bottle while mom and dad get a good night’s rest. If you have concerns about how you will adjust after the baby arrives, a postpartum doula may be just what you need to get the rest you deserve. Ask to speak to one of our postpartum doulas to learn more about how we can help you sleep like a baby, too!
What Postpartum Doulas Do Not Do:
Postpartum doulas are not nannies, we are so much more! We assist you in adjusting to life with a newborn, but we don’t completely take over care for the baby. We support you in caring for your infant and want you to feel more confident in your role as a parent when we leave. We usually work with clients though the first four months, for anywhere from one to six weeks until you feel like you are adjusted and healed from birth.
Overnights, we help support you and your baby getting into a healthy regular sleep routine. Our doulas usually work with families 1-5 days or nights a week during the postpartum adjustment period. We typically can not provide care every night of the week.
Unfortunately, we are not able to care for infants in the absence of parents or their primary caregiver.
Postpartum Doula Rates:
Daytime rates start at $30.00 per hour, and overnight rates start at $40.00 per hour. Weekend and holiday visits are available, if needed, for an additional charge.
