So you've decided to hire a doula, great! How do you know the doula you're consulting with is the right doula for you? Here are some questions you can ask to get a good feel for your prospective birth doula.
1. Why did you become a doula? What draws you to doula work?
2. What level of experience/training/certification do you have?
3. Explain the difference between your support and the support my medical providers/partner provides.
4. How often do meet/ how much do we stay in contact throughout my pregnancy?
5. When/how do I contact you when I'm in labor? Will you come to my home or meet me at my birthing place (hospital/birth center)?
6. What are your favorite and least favorite aspects of birth/postpartum work?
7. Has there been a time where you had to advocate for your client's safety? Describe how you handled the situation.
8. How will you help me meet my goals and support my birth plan?
9. Do you have back-up in place in cases of an emergency or in instances where you cannot attend my birth?
10. How many clients do you take on at a time?
